Introduction - Who am I?

Hi guys and welcome to my first Blogger post. Let me introduce myself, my name is Zara and I am a 4th year student in South East Technological University in Waterford. I am starting this blog to delve deeper into the world of digital economy and share any interesting points I have on this topic. But before I do that let me tell you a bit more about myself.

I am currently studying business and majoring in accounting. As part of my second semester in third year, I completed work placement in Deloitte. Deloitte is one of the big four accounting firms in the world, so I was ecstatic to gain placement is such a prestigious company. Throughout my eight month placement I worked alongside several managers and associates in the audit department using several information systems.

The auditing process depends heavily on the utilisation of information systems. The most important one that I used was the Engagement management system (EMS). EMS was used to store the audit files, create review notes, tickmarks and sign off on any files that had been completed. The files stored on this system were mostly Microsoft Excel and Word documents.

I would access the Excel files on EMS and it would direct me into Excel so I could complete the necessary work. Excel would be applied to organise data, run samples and calculate formulas. EMS only allowed one person to work on a file at a time, and after I was finished, I had to synchronise the file so that each team member had the most updated version. This system was useful to organise all of the files needed when carrying out an audit and the layout made it easy to find and store files needed.

Another system that I used was Connect. This is an online platform that was used to communicate with the Audit client. I would upload samples or request information and the client would upload documentation or respond with comments. This site was very helpful to keep all client documentation in one place and all team members could access it and respond with any queries.

I really enjoyed my placement and I hope to use the knowledge I learned at Deloitte to help create an informative and valuable blog for you all.

Hope to see you next week. Bye for now!!
